staaat-o!
Mimicked the synth lead on my guitar
Fun little riff moving between Phrygian and Phrygian Dominant
Lots of these little chromatic lines transitioning between sections in this song to add interest
Dubstep and metal work pretty well together lol
Double-stop sliiiiiide up
We've heard enough pentatonic cliches so this one plays around the obvious choices by using the second and sixth scale degrees
Outlining a Gm arpeggio on the way down with an interesting fingering so I can play a transient double-stop on that slide down, adding a bit more tension and bite. Little things make a big difference. Oh, and also, the rhythm of that descending line is in a 3:2 polyrhythm against the main beat!
Gotta throw in some emotional bends, including a Marty half pre-bend on that second one
And yet another double-stop, this time using the whammy to bend up into it using a hammer-on from nowhere
I really like this run. It has a "rolling" feel to it that happens when you use odd groupings of notes. This one goes up 5, then 4, then 7. I didn't consciously engineer this when I wrote the solo, it just came naturally. It's a pain to alternate pick because of the fingerings (there are two places where it's just one note on a string before a string change) so I used legato. If you palm mute correctly you can still get a good pick attack even with legato, which you can hear on the first few notes of this run.
The previous run connects straight to this sweep passage which I made more interesting by playing a little melody on the very upper note of the arpeggios rather than just play the same thing up and down. That second arpeggio uses a three-string finger roll sweep which is tricky to get clean...I think most guitarists avoid this pattern but it's really useful so you don't have to move around the neck too much during a fast passage, or if you want to play an inversion of the standard pattern to add flavor.
Two note per string descending pentatonic run using legato to make the transition smooth from the sweep part
Fun little chromatic gallop riff
