These three hungry fish have spotted a cricket crawling on the branch above them.
The male on the right is about to jump. but just before he does, he coils up his body in an S-shaped curve.
These Golden Wonders are so reliant on motion that they don't even realize that the cricket is in the water because it's not moving !
However, the cricket probably has no idea that there are three hungry fish in the water below him.
These fish spend most of their time near the surface of the water. This leaves them vulnerable to being targeted from above by terrestrial predators.
Prior to jumping. these fish will lower their tail until they're at a 45 degree angle with the surface.
Here is an adult female.
The male (on the right) is more golden than the female, but in the right light, the females can also have a golden sheen.
Another clue to gender is eye color. The male's eyes have more green than the females.
However, the best indication of gender is the length and shape of the anal fin.
